English Summary/英文概要: February 1963, London. A young mother commits suicide by shoving her head into her gas oven. The woman, Sylvia Plath, was a poet. She was said to have been driven to despair by her husband’s betrayals. At a Cme when women are seeking to break free from the stranglehold that is suffocaCng them, Sylvia is set up as a symbol by feminists. Despite herself. Because the desCny of this comet-like woman, haunted by darkness, is far more complex. Under Ananda Devi’s empatheCc pen, we follow the verCginous descent into hell of this cursed couple. All the way to absolute dazzlement.

Winner of Grand Prix de l’Heroine Madame Figaro 2023

Praise for Ananda Devi’s work:
“Ananda Devi’s precise, powerful pen, steeped in dark lyricism, slips into Sylvia and Ted’s footsteps, as if possessed by them, and ‘climbs the shadows’ to seek an echo of her own in the dazzling, tragic trajectory of a woman who wanted to be everything — mother, wife and poet in a world dominated by men.” Madame Figaro

“Ananda Devi is not aiming at the individual but at the writer, the woman who lives for and through literature, in literature (...) This quest is reflected in her beauJful poeJc wriJng and parJcularly original form.” Diacritik

“One has to read Sylvia P. to enter Sylvia and Ted’s painful existence, but more than that, one has to read it for Ananda Devi’s poetic breath of inexhausJble force.” Mondafriques
