NINNA NANNA A TEHERAN

A small group of children roams the streets of Tehran. They are dirty and badly dressed. Their bellies are empty and their eyes are full of anger: life has played a bad joke on them, it has made them born poor and alone, in a reality in which grown-ups are best not to trust. They live every day, slaves of a man and a woman who use them as beggars and pickpockets. To protect them there is neither God nor destiny, but only their determination, a gun that turns from hand to hand and a flock of crows that seems to follow them everywhere. This book offers a portrait of contemporary Iran, created by an Iranian woman who, working and living abroad, learned to objectively recognize the beauties and gray areas of her country. In «Lullaby in Tehran» Nassim Honaryar tells a story of daily desperation and ruthless revenge, digging so deeply into the hearts of these children who grew up too quickly to bring to light an invaluable treasure: their sanguine innocence.

THE ILLUSTRATED ORWELL: SUCH, SUCH WERE THE JOYS

Writer Sean Michael Wilson and artist Jaime Huxtable bring to vivid graphic life one of George Orwell’s most celebrated essays. In Such, Such Were The Joys Orwell looks back on his childhood and on his experience of boarding school, reflecting on the often brutal realities of the regime to which pupils were subjected in the name of class prejudice, hierarchy and imperial destiny.
This groundbreaking graphic treatment conjures up how this harsh world looks through a child’s innocent, accepting eyes while juxtaposing Orwell’s mature ruminations on what such schooling says about society. The book aims to introduce Orwell’s writing to new readers, while offering a fascinating new visual dimension for those who already know it well.

STAN LEE AND THE RISE AND FALL OF THE AMERICAN COMIC BOOK

(WYL)

Based on interviews with Stan Lee and dozens of his colleagues and contemporaries, as well as extensive archival research, this book provides a professional history, an appreciation, and a critical exploration of the face of Marvel Comics. Recognized as a dazzling writer, a skilled editor, a relentless self-promoter, a credit hog, and a huckster, Stan Lee rose from his humble beginnings to ride the wave of the 1940s comics books boom and witness the current motion picture madness and comic industry woes. Included is a complete examination of the rise of Marvel Comics, Lee’s work in the years of postwar prosperity, and his efforts in the 1960s to revitalize the medium after it had grown stale.

PUER TEA: ANCIENT CARAVANS AND URBAN CHIC

Puer tea has been grown for centuries in the "Six Great Tea Mountains" of Yunnan Province, and in imperial China it was a prized commodity, traded to Tibet by horse or mule caravan via the so-called Tea Horse Road and presented as tribute to the emperor in Beijing. In the 1990s, as the tea’s noble lineage and unique process of aging and fermentation were rediscovered, it achieved cult status both in China and internationally. The tea became a favorite among urban connoisseurs who analyzed it in language comparable to that used in wine appreciation and paid skyrocketing prices. In 2007, however, local events and the international economic crisis caused the Puer market to collapse.

Puer Tea traces the rise, climax, and crash of this phenomenon. With ethnographic attention to the spaces in which Puer tea is harvested, processed, traded, and consumed, anthropologist Jinghong Zhang constructs a vivid account of the transformation of a cottage handicraft into a major industry―with predictable risks and unexpected consequences.
