Katy Clemmy is the impressionable teenage daughter of a farmer and an alcoholic mother. To help her

peers which gradually erode her self-esteem.
Katy’s English teacher, Jane, has nearly reached forty without finding the husband and family she grew up
expecting to have. When Katy disappears Jane reluctantly becomes involved with the Clemmy family’s

Corinne is Katy’s mother. Pained and unhappy she drowns her feelings in alcohol, seeking oblivion. Her
past is a disastrous blur of bad choices, tragedy and destructive behaviour; her future, uncertain.
Beauty Tips for Girls, uses a mix of letters, confession, media articles, and personal narrative to bring a fresh
perspective on the myriad of media voices telling women how to live their lives, and the damaging impact
