EVERYBODY RISE: A NOVEL

It’s 2006 in the Manhattan of the young and the privileged: the stock market is booming and kids two years out of college are buying vacation homes with cash. Holding down a job is not always as valued as being a fixture on the social scene. As money and ambition consume the city, a new generation of heirs and strivers are jockeying for social power and discovering that class, especially on the Upper East Side, still holds sway.

Everybody Rise is a keenly observed novel in which a young woman plunges headlong into a glittering world of wealth and social prestige. Evelyn Beegan, an irresistibly flawed heroine, relentlessly elbows her way up the social ladder. In order to be accepted, she must pass as upper class and be seen as someone with an established old money background. Her lies start slowly but quickly grow until the ground underneath her begins to give way.

Class distinction, particularly those created by inherited wealth, have always fascinated Americans. In each generation, there emerges a writer who captures our conflicted attitudes about “society” in a new way, whether it is American legends like Henry James in the 19th century, F. Scott Fitzgerald in the 20th century or more contemporary voices like Curtis Sittenfeld and now Stephanie Clifford in the 21st.

Film rights have been sold to Fox 2000, with Karen Rosenfelt (Twilight; The Devil Wears Prada) producing.

小说的电影版权已经被FOX 2000买下,制片人是Karen Rosenfelt(《暮光之城》《穿Prada的恶魔》)(LYR)
