The novel also asks big questions: what defines who we are as human beings, what happens when art betrays people, and what is the responsibility of the artist to those she loves. Sharon and Mel, the two cartoonists, make brave choices and sometimes selfish ones, but for them the truth of their art and their bond of friendship means everything.

The voice in this novel is unique, it’s sly, full of energy and both funny and heartbreaking.

About the Author/作者介绍： 卡莱•雷•威泰克来自肯塔基州东部，现居纽约。她拥有纽约大学文学硕士学位，曾与乔纳森•雷斯曼，瑞克•穆迪，达林•斯翠丝及恰克•沃驰泰尔等作家同窗。她曾两次获得 Pushcart奖提名，并在Green Mountain Review, Smokelong Quarterly, BODY, Bodega, Joyland, The Switchback and Still等上发表文章。近来她还担任了历史频道的南方文化纪录片“You Don’t Know Dixie”的特约评论员。

Kayla Rae Whitaker comes from eastern Kentucky and currently lives in New York. She has an MFA in fiction from New York University where she studied with such writers as Jonathan Lethem, Rick Moody, Darin Strauss and Chuck Wachtel. She has been nominated twice for the Pushcart Prize and has published fiction in the Green Mountain Review, Smokelong Quarterly, BODY, Bodega, Joyland, The Switchback and Still where she won the journal’s first fiction contest judged by Ann Pancake. And she recently appeared as a commentator alongside the band, Lynyrd Skynyrd in the History Channel’s Southern culture documentary "You Don’t Know Dixie".
