ARF HISTORY: MASTERPIECES

ARF HISTORY is a series of colorful cartoon books – starring dogs – that parody mankind’s greatest events, discoveries and creations. The canine-ical humor of ARF HISTORY transports the reader (and possibly her dog) directly into the timeline of history, science and culture.

The first of the series, ARF HISTORY: Masterpieces, is a collection of pen and ink/watercolor cartoon portrayals of dogs that whimsically infiltrate the world’s greatest works of art. Each image plays with the paradoxical juxtaposition of respect and irreverence: respect for the transcendent brilliance of the original art, and the earthy irreverence of a canine point of view.

Henri Maltese, a bona fide arf historian, is thrilled to pair his fabulously fractured “tidbits” of canine wisdom with each picture. While humor is its primary goal, ARF HISTORY also motivates readers to learn independently in order to completely “get” the jokes, making it both fun and discreetly educational.

Chinese Summary/

(LNL)

Awards/

Barbara Neibart

Neibart holds an MFA in painting from Bard College, and a BFA in Fine Art from Cornell University. She shows her award-winning work in galleries throughout the northeastern U.S. and in Italy.

Barbara Neibart’s freelance illustration and cartooning clients include the Ford Foundation, The Portland (Maine) Press Herald, The Wine Media Guild of NY and BUST Magazine.

For the last three years, she has exhibited her full color indie comics, Wild Life: an illustrated journal, at several comic art festivals, including MoCCAfest, sponsored by New York’s Society of Illustrators. In 2012, Spandexless.com published an online review of Wild Life: an illustrated journal, vol. I, in which David Anderson called it “Bright, colorful, goofy.” That pretty much sums up Neibart, too.

An art professor for over 20 years, Neibart has taught lecture/studio classes at colleges in NYC and NJ, and is currently an adjunct assistant professor of art at the County College of Morris in New Jersey. Neibart’s passion for making and teaching art has inspired her to read up on many subjects, including, to name a few: science (astro- and quantum physics, entomology, biology), literature and poetry, world history, and sports. Her quest for more knowledge always informs her work, making it intellectually as well as visually stimulating. It also makes her fabulous at parties.

Barbara Neibart knows and loves both art and animals and has been a loyal, table-food- sneaking companion to several brilliant dogs (and a couple of annoyed but philosophical cats) for over 327 years*. Dogs show up frequently in her fine art; she has painted many portraits of pets on commission.
