And although neither the boat slip nor the boat seems to exist the first few times Angie combs the docks, she eventually learns the secret to conjuring them and takes the voyage to Elysium. Waiting for her at the end of the pier is Milos. Angie immediately recognizes him as the man she saw while tumbling through the air the day of her busted wedding. If that isn’t mind-blowing enough, Milos reveals that he’s a century-old Greek god living among his mythical elders on this island they relocated to 1,600 years ago, when they left Mount Olympus and their day-to-day duties overseeing mankind. Eventually, Milos also explains that he’s a vital element of the Pantheon’s imminent return to power, although it’s a role he says he’s unwilling to take unless Angie can be at his side. He has adored her from afar, since she was a child. Angie puts her doubts and insecurities aside and grows more and more attracted to this charming, handsome, somewhat serious-minded god. During their magical adventures, she joins Milos in riding winged rock-and-roll horses through the sky, referees a competition that involves swimming up a five-hundred-foot waterfall, plays an inning as a full-fledged Yankee and finds comfort and love in Milos’ arms, the likes of which she’s never known before. But Angie’s bliss threatens to be short-lived. She learns, in the most humiliating way possible, that Milos’ elders are forcing him to marry a tempestuous goddess named Electra. Angry and hurt, Angie rushes home to New York and tries to resume her old life. But circumstances lead to a series of revelations about her grandmother, her father and herself that shake the foundation of her world and compel her to journey back to Elysium to claim Milos. In the course of her quest, she battles monsters, both reptilian and human, and goes toe-to-toe with none other than Zeus himself. The story is told with humor, romance and drama, and mixes contemporary fiction with colorful details from traditional Greek mythology. Angie’s unique character, full of strength and sass as she makes her journey of self-discovery, will appeal to a wide range of readers of both sexes.
