Yes, like all these big three American counterparts, Alibaba creates jobs. Established in 1999 by 18 young people in an apartment of Hangzhou, China, Alibaba now employs 25,000 workers. Alibaba has grown into the world giant of e-commerce. It was valued at $35 billion two years ago and $150 billion today. Alibaba cultivates routinized innovations and creates a multi-sided-market ecosystem that brings together over 10 million e-commerce participating vender businesses, half million e-commerce service vender businesses, and created over 11 million jobs in 2013 alone. This ecosystem serves hundreds of millions consumers. This growth model can be widely adapted only in the present Digital Age.

About the Author/作者介绍: 刘鹰:耶鲁大学经济学硕士和杜克大学经济学博士,清华大学社会科学学院经济学教授,清华大学华商研究中心副主任,创业-创新-小微企业及融资经济学高级顾问,中国工业和信息化部中小企业发展促进中心专家咨询委员会委员,中国-丹麦创新创业合作教授。主要著作有《中世纪中国:伟大的发明、缓慢的工业化以及创业家的缺位》、《创业家和创新力:新古典经济学视角》、《论创业劳动》等。曾获得“尤文马里恩考夫曼基金会奖学金”(2006-2007),“亚洲基金会奖学金”(2000年夏)、“杜克大学奖学金”(1986-1990)、“福特基金会奖学金”(1982-1986)等。
