ANIMAL: THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A FEMALE BODY
Book ID/图书代码: 04560015B84298
English Summary/英文概要: A funny, feminist exploration of the female body by award-winning writer, comedian and actress, Sara Pascoe.
So much of how we feel about ourselves is programmed by millions of years of successful mating behaviour: our obsession with youth, comparing ourselves to other women, wishing for tiny waists or massive breasts, jealousy, broodiness, infidelity and homosexual feelings.
In each chapter of this, her debut book, Sara examines a specific part or aspect of the human female body: why it has evolved and how it is exalted, oppressed, fetishised or misunderstood in modern culture. She combines autobiography and evolutionary history to describe Armpit hair to Zygots, taking on consent, clitorectomys, gonads, hormonal influences, monogamy, masturbation, plastic surgery, pubes, and virginity along the way.
She is entertaining and informative; personal and universal – this is a mostly serious reminder that each of us is an animal, and we must learn to accept and understand our urges and insecurities.
Chinese Summary/中文概要: A tremendously exciting voice: timely, intelligent and buzzing with comedic charm ... Pascoe has something to say and a thoroughly engaging way of saying it. (The Times)
Awards/获奖情况:"Some comics serve up their anxieties just for laughs; Pascoe draws on hers - about love, her body, having babies - to offer provocative (and positive) new perspectives on the world." - Guardian
