Dougal Dixon studied geology and palaeontology at the University of St Andrews, where he continued as a research student to revise the standard work on paleogeography of the British Isles. He has worked in publishing and is a prolific author of popular science books, earth science and evolution titles. The idea for writing a book about evolution looking forwards rather than backwards was not a sudden inspiration but had been involving in his mind since his university days.
Desmond Morris is a zoologist, ethologist and popular anthropologist. He presented the ITV series Zoo Time but achieved world-wide fame in the 60s with his book Naked Ape, which was followed by many other best-selling titles including The Human Zoo, Manwatching, The Soccer Tribe, Catwatching, Dogwatching and Babywatching. He is also known as a surrealist painter, and television presenter.
