Charlotte Hobson’s first book, Black Earth City (2001), a memoir of a year spent in Russia as the Soviet Union collapsed, won a Somerset Maugham Award and was shortlisted for the Duff Cooper Prize and the Thomas Cook Travel Book Award. Having previously worked in advertising and publishing, Charlotte Hobson now divides her time between writing and translation. She lives in Cornwall with her family. The Vanishing Futurist is her first novel.
