English Summary/英文概要： In the murky heart of Victorian Britain Nansi finds herself washed up on the banks of a foggy river. Alone and uncertain what has happened to her mother she is taken in by Pernicious Sid, a theatre manager with high aspirations and his fingers in many unsavoury pies. Convinced by his promises of stardom she joins his no- so-merry band of rogues and vagabonds and soon becomes part of a gang of petty thieves and violent smugglers. Little does Nansi know the man who appoints himself her guardian is a despicable devil of the most vicious kind. Turning every situation and superstition to his advantage he embroils Nansi in a world where mourning and despair are a chance to make money and the Victorian fascination with death and the afterlife is manipulated to the worst degree.
Preying on the orphaned and the lonely, Pernicious Sid uses his spectacular theatre as a base for his skulduggery and his theatrical entourage as marionettes. He coerces his vibrant cast into a world of mystery and murder where only the fiendishly evil can survive and the fragile and young are there to be used to satisfy his own ambitious ends.

About the Author/作者介绍： Eloise，在兰特里森特长大，现在居住在彭布罗克郡的桑德斯富特靠近海滩的地方。她曾经在剧院负责服装，后来学习了戏剧并获得表演专业硕士学位。在从事了10年的演员工作之后，她在斯望西大学攻读创意写作硕士学位。她的第一本图书名为《艾伦的岛（Elen’s Island）》。Eloise grew up in Llantrisant. She now lives in Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire, very close to the beach where she collects sea glass and walks her dog Watson Jones. She worked in the theatre in wardrobe, then studied Drama and took a postgraduate diploma in Acting. After working for over ten years as an actress, she studied for a Masters in Creative Writing at Swansea University. Elen’s Island is her first book.
