The book is divided into what he terms the “10 Principles of the Concentration of Wealth and Power”: 1) Reduce Democracy by protecting the opulent from the majority; 2) Shape Ideology—In reaction to the “excess of democracy” in the 1960s, large corporations have waged an economic war to beat back egalitarian gains; 3) Redesign the Economy by increasing the role of financialization and speculative capital and create worker insecurity by sending American jobs offshore; 4) Shift the Burden by creating a tax system that protects short-term corporate profits at the expense of everyone else; 5) Attack Solidarity by dismantling or weakening the underpinnings of the Great American Middle Class: a high working wage, a strong public education system, a fair justice system and social security; 6) Run the Regulators—the death of the Glass-Steagall Act and the legacy of the corporate bailouts have negated the role of regulation of the corporate sector; 7) Engineer Elections—the increasing role of corporate money in elections and how this corrupts the democratic process; 8) Keep the Rabble in Line by continuing the erosion of unions that had been the firewall protecting workers from corporate tyranny; 9) Manufacture Consent by undermining democracy through the control of beliefs and attitudes; 10) Marginalize the Population by keeping them uninformed and fear-driven.

REQUIEM FOR THE AMERICAN DREAM is a book that makes Chomsky’s breadth and depth accessible and at the same gives us his most powerful political ideas with unprecedented, breathtaking directness. It will go down as one of his greatest and most lasting contributions.

The book, is being produced in tandem with the film of the same name that was recently released in selected theaters to rave reviews and standing ovations and will be on Netflix and touring colleges prior to the book’s release.
