Hey there, I’m Misha Maynerick Blaise…welcome to my website! I am an artist, a Baha’i, and a mother living in Austin, Texas.

Here is a little bit more about me and my journey as an artist:

Simply, I believe art gives life and revives the soul.

When I fall in love with a piece of art, I feel a sense of excitement every time I see it. For example, there is a print by my friend Chris Silva that I have framed by my front door. When I see it on my way out, it reminds me of the tremendous capacity the world has for love, unity, and justice. One small print does this for me! This is the power of art; it speaks in a language that can open doors of creativity and freedom in a world that can sometimes seem oppressively limited.

My educational background is in Middle Eastern studies and Conflict Resolution, and I worked for many years as a youth worker in under-served communities in Chicago. For years I struggled to figure out how making art could fit into my larger career path, until I decided to make art my career path.

In the past few years, while working as a freelance artist, I have also given birth to two wonderful little boys. My oldest is now 4 and I also had a baby in 2013. It is an interesting challenge to try and balance my desire to create art with my home life, and I find that I often have many more project ideas than I can possibly keep up with. But I’ve also found that being extremely limited on time has pushed me to work in new ways. I often plan things out in my head for days before I have the chance to work. When I do work, I merge my hand drawn and painted images together in Photoshop, which often allows me to work faster. I know that this precious time of childhood won’t last forever, so I try and savor every moment of it!

I hope my art can give a breath of fresh air to those who connect with it; a small reminder of the wonder and beauty in the world around and within us. I hope you enjoy it too!
