About the Author/作者介绍: Veronica Bidwell是教育心理学家。

Veronica Bidwell is an educational psychologist. Her book ’The Parent’s Guide to Specific Learning Difficulties’ draws on her extensive involvement with children, parents and teachers. She has taught and worked as an EP for over 30 years. She has worked in the state and private sectors; she has worked in both mainstream and special schools. In the late 90’s she set up and ran a leading independent Educational Psychology Service based in London. She has assessed many hundreds of children, supported and advised parents and liaised with schools and teachers.
Veronica is very aware of the parental concerns that arise when a child is struggling to learn; whether it is difficulty with reading, failure to cope with maths, unhappiness in the classroom or playground or an inability to maintain attention. Parents want to understand the nature of the difficulty; they want to help but often do not know where to start. Veronica’s aim in writing this book has been to give parents the knowledge, understanding and confidence necessary to take a proactive role in supporting their child. She knows from experience that well directed parent involvement with their child’s education and learning is a vital ingredient for success and that this is particularly true for children who find it hard to fit easily into a traditional classroom.
Veronica has developed and delivered numerous training courses for parents and professionals and has contributed to Dystalk, the leading learning difficulty website offering a series of talks given by experts in their field.
She is currently a Governor at Fairley House School, a leading independent specialist school catering for pupils aged 6 to 16 with dyslexia and dyspraxia. She has served as Chairman of the Trustees at the Kensington Dyslexia Centre. Veronica is a Chartered Educational Psychologist with an Honours degree in Psychology from Bedford College, London University, a Masters degree in Educational Psychology from University College, London and a postgraduate certificate in Education. In addition to a real and passionate interest in helping children to achieve their best Veronica is an avid reader, gardener and observer of wildlife; with her husband Robin she continues to travel extensively and is involved with a number of educational and environmental projects around the world. They have 12 grandchildren who also keep Veronica’s professional interests rooted in reality.
