    Book ID/图书代码: 00530016B92881

English Summary/英文概要: Many of us have dreamed about upping sticks, leaving the humdrum of urban living for a new life of blue skies, warm sunshine and sparkling seas. For Anthony and Ivana Stancomb, moving from Fulham to Vis was an easy decision. But fitting in with the locals was one of the hardest things they have ever had to do.

Under a Croatian Sun takes the reader on a journey from Grey Britain to a ramshackle village in Croatia - a village proudly defined by its tragic history, its unique cafe culture, its fishing industry and its potent alcohol. Faced with a language barrier and not the friendliest of locals, little by little our undaunted couple become islanders in their own right, and melt a few hearts in the process.

With the Adriatic Sea as a backdrop, we trace their transformation from foreigners to friends, taking in their adventures on the water, fierce grandmothers, star-cross’d lovers and the establishment of the island’s first ever cricket team. This heartwarming accounts of following your heart and not your head, shows how, with a bit of courage and an open mind, home is wherever you make it.

About the Author/作者介绍: Many dream about upping sticks and leaving the humdrum of urban living for a new life of blue skies, warm sun and sparking seas - so for Anthony and Ivana Stancomb, moving from Fulham to the island of Vis, the remotest island off the coast of Croatia, was an easy enough decision. However, fitting in with not the friendliest of islands, was one of the hardest things they’d ever had to do, and it took time to win over their new community.

Under a Croatian Sun takes the reader on a journey to a bizarre, ramshackle village by the water - a place defined by its colourful and often tragic history, its unique café culture, its fishing tradition and its potent wine.

In his first book ’Under a Croatian Sun’, the author traces their transformation from foreigners to islanders against a backdrop of feuding families, fearsome grandmothers, star-cross’d lovers, mafia-run night clubs, and the establishment of an island cricket team. In his second book, ’Notes from Very Small Island’, the couple become involved in local projects - often ending up with hilarious consequences - and continue on their quest to become part of their new community. A warming and amusing account of how home can be wherever you make it.
