Book ID/图书代码: 04332816B93237
English Summary/英文概要: In 1976, three-week-old Kelly Carlisle’s mother was strangled in downtown Los Angeles, leaving Kelly with her eccentric grandfather to grow up among the city’s forgotten, living in the harbor with the drunks and the downtrodden. Soon enough, Kelly begins to learn the thornier truths of her mother’s story and her own family history. Now an adult, Kelly decides to return to where she came from, discovering the LAPD, a cold case file, and a possible connection to two of LA’s most notorious killers. WE ARE ALL SHIPWRECKS is a memoir of unconventional childhood and a journey to understand that where you come from is not always who you are.

“In this remarkable memoir, a threat of seedy menace hangs over the sunny innocence of the child that was Kelly Grey Carlisle. Her mother murdered, her father disappeared, her grandfather-guardian in the porn trade, she gathers affection where she finds it and gradually, painfully, over decades, unravels the story of her family. It is with generosity of spirit and vivid language that the author takes us through her extraordinary journey toward the blessing of an ‘ordinary life.’”
