Catherine de Valois marries King Henry V of England when still a teenager. They are soon blessed with a son, but their happiness is short-lived. Henry’s death leaves Catherine a widow at the age of twenty-one – and her infant son as King Henry VI.

Then Catherine’s father, the king of France, also dies. Baby Henry is now king of England and France, and needs all his mother’s strength to protect him. But she is a foreigner at court and regarded with suspicion – particularly by the Duke of Gloucester, who will stop at nothing to protect his own claim to the throne.

Catherine finds friendship with another foreigner at court, a young Welshman named Owen Tudor. Their friendship deepens into romance, but must be kept secret at all costs – for Catherine, forbidden to remarry, is in love with a servant ...

About the Author/作者介绍： Mari Griffith became well-known as co-presenter of BBC TV show Music Time and as resident singer on BBC radio. She also had her own TV series, and was later a successful director and producer. An early version of Root of the Tudor Rose was long-listed in the Mslexia Novel Competition. She is currently writing a sequel.
