Awards/获奖情况:Rating: Recommended Superior in style, liveliness, integrity and format: Delve deep into the inner workings of the human brain in this book full of eye-catching text features like QR codes and cartoons. Seven chapters lay out topics on the brain’s physiology, development, emotions, memory and learning, language and speech, and brain health. The text explains necessary science vocabulary both in context as well as in its extensive glossary, and it should be accessible to most middle school readers. Each chapter contains two to four “Inquire & Investigate” segments laid out as experiments. For instance, in the Memory and Learning chapter, readers are presented with an experiment called “Create a False Memory” wherein the procedure involves testing the memories of volunteers using two different word lists. One list has a theme (school-related words) and the other only has a couple of terms from the first list. Variables are suggested for decreasing the amount of time that the subjects look at the lists and wait to look at the second list. Engaging content that will drive understanding makes this book useful to students and educators.
