About the Author/作者介绍: Ivan Krastev has a reasonable claim to be one of the most influential, elegant and original writers on foreign affairs anywhere in the world. Born in Bulgaria, based now in Vienna, fluent in English and Russian and tremendously well connected in the US, he has been described by Timothy Synder as ‘one of the great European minds of today’; by Robert Kagam as ’one of the most interesting thinkers of our time’; by Gideon Rachman at the Financial Times as ’one of Europe’s most interesting public intellectuals,’ and by Madeline K. Albright as ’one of Europe’s leading thinkers’. He is close to Anne Applebaum, Ian Buruma and others. In THE LIGHT THAT FAILED, Krastev has teamed up with the brilliant Stephen Holmes from NYU School of Law. The book is executed with Ivan’s usual vast range of reference and vivid, aphoristic energy.
Ivan also writes a monthly column for the International New York Times and contributes regularly to the US edition of the NYT. He had a very good piece in NYT that echoes the themes of this book: http://nyti.ms/2zSgvZE. You can also take look at Krastev’s widely viewed TED talk at Ted Global in 2012, which has been watched almost 650,000 times:
