English Summary/英文概要： It is August, 1616. The whaling ship Heartsease has ventured as far north as the Arctic, but the crew must now return home as the vicious winter approaches. All, that is, but for Thomas Cave. The aggressive ship mate has wagered that it would be impossible to remain in Greenland throughout the winter, and Cave proves willing to take up that wager. So he is left with provisions, shelter, and a journal - should he not live to tell the tale himself.
As the light recedes, so begins Cave season of isolation and terrible, hallucinatory cold. Pitted against the elements, he is vulnerable to avalanches, bears - and his own demons. For he has experienced a terrible loss which manages to haunt him even here, in a frozen wilderness?
