THE CHRYSALIS: A NOVEL
English Summary/英文概要: our newest and hottest commercial historical thriller, THE CHRYSALIS.
We are introduced to Aislin Coyne, a female attorney on the cusp of making partner at a prestigious law firm in New York. Aislin is asked by her boss to lead the defense for a venerable art auction house against the claim that one of its most beautiful Dutch master paintings had actually been stolen by the Nazis. On the first day of her assignment, Aislin waits in a bar for Michael Roarke, the in-house counsel of her law firm’s intimidating new client. Aislin feels it immediately and knows it is wrong, but the attraction between them is nearly uncontrollable. It is not long before Aislin finds herself falling into a romance with Michael. Staying focused on the case, Aislin proves herself to be a tough attorney, but her efforts come undone when it becomes clear she’s being used as a pawn in a black market game that has gone on for decades.
Wonderfully crafted, the contemporary drama is subtly complemented by the story of the painting itself and the lives it affected. The interwoven passages relate to both it’s Dutch owner during WWII as well as the story of the painter himself, his forbidden love for the daughter of his patron, and the underground Catholicism of the Netherlands in the 16th century.
Terrell is a lawyer with over a decade of experience as a litigator with major New York law firms. She graduated from Boston College magna cum laude and from the BC school of law cum laude. She paired her love of art history with law through a series of pro bono cases, while simultaneously taking additional art history classes at NYU. She lives in Pennsylvania and is working on the next Aislin Coyne novel.
