And what is worse, she can’t bear the thought that others sleep while she is unable to. At night, searching for soulmates sleepless like her, she disturbs the rest of many. Until she knocks at Benoit De Gieter’s door. He, too, turns out to be an insomniac.
Quite a good deal older than Maya, Benoit lost his mother, a prostitute, when she tried to kidnap her young son from a home. She has never left his thoughts. From his youngest days onwards, his only comfort is his imaginary friend, a sperm whale. Maya and Benoit enter a special relationship.

About the Author/作者介绍： Annelies Verbeke，1976年生於比利時。擁有德文及劇本創作的雙學位。她的首部劇作Dogdreaming入選2003柏林影展歐洲注目焦點作品。目前除了小說創作外，也擔任電影雜誌Film & Televisie的影評記者。
Annelies Verbeke (Belgium, 1976) studied Germanic Languages and Literature at the University of Ghent, and script writing at the RITS in Brussels. Her play Dogdreaming, was selected for both the Advanced Script Development Workshop of the Mediterranean Film Institute and the 2003 European Pitch Point at the Berlin Film Festival. Verbeke works as a reviewer for the film monthly Film & Televisie, and writes scenarios and prose.
