English Summary/英文概要: Sharon MacDonald has a problem. It’s not being under house arrest. It’s not the Iranian guy who just fell from the twenty-fifth floor of her apartment building. It’s not even the police surveillance that’s preventing her from getting to her marijuana “grow rooms”. Sharon’s problem is a stranger named Ray: He’s too good looking, and his business proposal sounds too good to be true.
Detective Gord Bergeron has problems, too. There’s his new, hard-to-read partner, Detective Armstrong; a missing ten-year-old girl; an unidentified torso dumped in an alley; and what looks like corruption deep within the police force.
In a city where the drug, immigration, and sex industries are all inextricably intertwined, it’s only a matter of time until Sharon’s and Gord’s paths cross and all hell breaks loose in this pitch-perfect second installment of John McFetridge’s rollicking noir series.
When it turns out the Iranian guy’s got no ID, no one knows him, and a couple of the 9/11 terrorists once lived in the building, they dig deeper, trying to make connections all over the new Toronto, in the Asian massage parlours, the street-dealer-led housing projects, and the mafia-run private clubs.
Or maybe they’ll just stay close to Sharon. She knows what everybody knows. The whole world might be coming here, but this is nowhere.

Parnell Hall, author of Hitman帕內‧霍爾 著有《槍手》、《陪審員》等---“Crackling dialogue, explosive action, cops, cro oks, and the deadly setups, scams, and mind games these underworld types play. Sounds like a good Elmore Leonard novel. Reads like one, too. Enjoy.”
Ken Bruen, author of Edgar-nominated Priest.---“... just one hell of a read, takes off like a bullet and never let’s up, like a wondrous mix of Elmore Leonard and McBain but with a dazzling Canadian slant that is as fresh as it is darkly hilarious. Detective Bergeron and under-house-arrest Sharon MacDonald are just terrific creations; they leap off the page and the only flaw is the book is over before you can quite catch your breath—it’s that enthralling.”
WINNIPEG FREE PRESS reviewed by John Sullivan---“"Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere is as gritty a tale of drug wars, biker gangs, pervs, hookers, bent cops and multicultural friction as you’ll find anywhere south of the border, set in the nouveau, glitz-and-greed metropolis you only thought you knew… McFetridge navigates a breathless plot punctuated by slick, staccato dialogue…. A breakout effort for McFetridge and a rude awakening for the rest of us. Toto, we’re not in your momma’s Toronto anymore."
REVIEWING THE EVIDENCE.COM reviewed by Barbara Fister---“The double helix of twisting plot lines take a breathtakingly cynical turn at the end that’s executed with exhilarating skill. It’s natural to compare McFetridge to Elmore Leonard. He has a similar deadpan humor and a knack for evoking complex, three-dimensional lives with just a few lines of dialogue. It would be equally apt to compare his examination of urban life with that of the television series, The Wire, in the way the cops and criminals operate on parallel tracks, crime and big business are synonymous, and the portrait of a city, bit by bit, comes together in all its squalid, teeming glory.”
TORONTO SUN Reviewer and award-winning novelist Joan Barfoot---“Toronto likes to think of itself as a “world-class city,’’ and at least in terms of crime and crime fiction, it’s not that far off. One illustration: John McFetridge’s Everybody Knows This is Nowhere, an absorbingly complex tale... There are wheels within wheels, plots within plots, betrayals within betrayals — along with confusions and hopes.”
THE HAMILTON SPECTATOR Mystery reviewer Don Graves---“Convincing atmospheric writing... Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere is a fine summer read and has changed my time-honoured image of Toronto the Good.” full review

THE TORONTO STAR ---"Canada’s answer to Elmore Leonard is going places...The title of Canadian author John McFetridge’s second crime novel is as packed with rascally attitude as the book itself."
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY---“[McFetridge is] a clear disciple of Elmore Leonard” and called the book, “a fun read."
BOOKLISTReviewer Thomas Gaughan---“Sex. Dope. Immigration. Gang war. Filmmaking. In McFetridge’s hands, Toronto might as well be the new L.A. of crime fiction.”
JANUARY MAGAZINE Reviewer Linda Richards---"...Canada’s answer to Elmore Leonard, in some ways that doesn’t even begin to cover it. If anything, McFetridge’s voice is colder, starker than Leonard’s, something likely due the fact that this Made-in-Canada author wears his nationality like a Hudson’s Bay blanket."
