THE MAX CHRONICLES PRESENTS THE STORYTELLER: THE STORYTELLER
Book ID/图书代码: 14935607B11106
English Summary/英文概要: The story is about a man named Ross and his introduction to and close friendship with Maxwell Winston Stone in Denver in 1998. When Ross, a struggling real estate developer, first met Max he thought him an ordinary man; however, from that day forward he quickly learned that Max was, instead, an extraordinary human being. At first blush, Max’s life experiences appear similar to those of most of us. He pursued various occupations and endeavors and suffered sadness and loss commonly experienced by most other 74-year-olds. But in mid-life Max discovered the power and importance of reading, and he vigorously pursued this new interest. Each room in his home was stacked floor to ceiling with countless books he’d read, some several times. Through reading Max changed the course of his life.
He nurtured and applied his faith and wisdom gained from his many sad and challenging life experiences and problems, from those of the people he met and came to know, and from reading.
People drawn to Max told him their troubles and problems. In response Max told a story or a parable. Most came from the Bible and literally thousands of other books, from his experiences and from those people shared with him, from inspirational speakers, philosophers, from histories of many cultures, from his observations of and interaction with mankind engaged in life’s daily pursuits, from his study of human nature, and from stories told to him over his many years.
Storyteller Maxwell Stone didn’t preach and rarely gave direct answers. Rather, his stories and parables helped listeners to see their predicaments in a different light and allowed them to arrive at their own solutions.
Each story and parable applies one or more principles of many of the world’s religions or of basic universal, moral and humanitarian beliefs.
They lead the listener to more clearly understand how to get a deeper and richer understanding and meaning of life and how spiritual, moral and ethical convictions can, in a practical way, be practiced everyday.
In addition, the book shares the collective knowledge imparted through the listener’s problems, Max’s responsive stories, quotes and parables and the spiritual principles taught through them, and he describes their interrelationship and the common spiritual thread through the spiritual fabric weaved by them.
Through interaction between Max and his listeners, including Ross, the book imparts the spiritual principles and dynamics of changing lives, of living practically while applying religious principles, humanitarian morals and ethics in a way that will greatly enrich one’s life.
His response to questions about the source of his power is never direct.
He answers with stories that illustrate the characteristics of spiritual commitment and living: enjoyment of life’s blessings, harnessing our energy, persistence, how we respond to and interact with others, overcoming prejudice, the nature of hate, the optical illusion of how we see ourselves, the genesis and nature of change, of honesty, of the nature of service and leadership, of appreciation, about the foundation for our values, about not being afraid of failure.
And Max performs other astonishing miracles.
Ultimately, in his unique fashion, he leaves it to the reader to discover and experience the spiritual catalyst that makes daily, practical, spiritual living possible.
A reading of this book will leave the reader with no doubt as to the identity of that spiritual element that gives meaning and purpose to human life.
Carwile writes in a simple and direct style.
The story is sprinkled with humor, pathos and uncommon insight. It appeals to people of all faiths. The story of Max Stone as told by Ernie Carwile will teach and inspire. I heartily recommend it.

Ernie Carwile——from a truck driver for Peabody Coal Mine, a disabled Veteran for the U.S. Air Force, to a heavyweight boxer and real estate developer, his life seemed like it was only touch and go attempts at survival. Lost and broken, Ernie found a glimmer of hope, which led him to complete a Master of Divinity from the Iliff School of Theology, and the Senior Pastor at Various something was still lacking. What he craved was a "livable spirituality."
