THINGS I WANT MY DAUGHTERS TO KNOW
Book ID/图书代码: 03540007B15613
English Summary/英文概要: This novel is definitely not chick or mom lit. It’s solid women’s fiction
- a touching family story. It begins when Barbara, the charismatic and
loving (but not perfect) mother of four daughters, dies of cancer at only 60
and her family has gathered for the funeral. Her daughters range in age
between 15 and late 30s, the youngest one being the product of her second
(very happy) marriage to Mark, who has also become a supportive father to
the older girls. When Barbara dies, each daughter is at a secret crossroads
in her life, one deciding whether to divorce, one whether to throw aside her
commitment issues and marry, one whether to stay put nearer home for a while
after a decade of running away, and Hannah the youngest facing her coming of
age (now without her mother and with a grieving father).
The full story of THINGS I WANT MY DAUGHTERS TO KNOW encompasses the year
after the funeral, when everything seems to fall apart. However - Barbara
has left each of her daughters a letter, and a copy of a journal she’s
written while sick, filled with memories, past mistakes, and advice she had
never had the chance (or courage) to give to them in real life. As a
result, the secrets out, things get worse, then when the family finally
pulls together they slowly get better, and the book ends complete with a
joyous celebration the following summer.
