English Summary/英文概要： Devil May Care is the forthcoming thirty-sixth James Bond novel. Written by Sebastian Faulks, it will be published on 28 May 2008, the 100th anniversary of Bond creator Ian Fleming’s birth.[1]
The popular novelist, famous for Charlotte Gray and Birdsong, was selected by the estate of the late 007-author in 2006, though his identity was not revealed to the public until July 2007 when a publishing date for the work was officially announced along with its title.
The novel is set in the Cold War in 1967 (and in Ian Fleming’s original continuity, following The Man With The Golden Gun) and the action is played out "across two continents, exotic locations and some of the world’s most thrilling cities".[2] U.S. publisher Doubleday confirmed one of the locations will be Paris. Many online and print sources (for example, AOL Entertainment [4]) erroneously stated that Devil May Care will be the first new James Bond novel published since 1966. In fact, dozens of full-length Bond novels were published, officially, between 1968 and 2002 by the authors Kingsley Amis (as "Robert Markham"), John Pearson, Christopher Wood, John Gardner, and Raymond Benson. In addition, Charlie Higson and Samantha Weinberg (as "Kate Westbrook") have been publishing Bond-related novels since 2005. Faulks’ book is, however, the first novel to focus on the adult James Bond, as conceived by Fleming, since 2002.

Awards/获奖情况：Penguin has set a UK hardback sales target of 250,000 copies for Devil May Care, the new James Bond novel by Sebastian Faulks due next spring. It is also to release new hardback editions of Ian Fleming’s original works to celebrate the centenary of the author’s birth.
Launching its plans for "world domination" for the 28th May title to retailers last night (7th November), Penguin General m.d. Tom Weldon "Sebastian has written a tour de force . . . it is everything we hoped for and a couple of Martinis more." He promised an unmissable marketing and publicity campaign. "Imagine a speedboat coming down the Thames with the first copy... imagine [Penguin marketing chiefs] Joanna Prior and Naomi Fidler in gold lamé swimsuits abseiling down the building."
Guests were given a glimpse of the book’s cover, featuring a single iconic image, which has been designed by The Partners branding agency. The £18.99 title will be released under the new Penguin 007 imprint, alongside the 14 rejacketed Fleming originals at £14.99.
Faulks said he had retained 80% of Fleming’s style, and aimed to blend the pace of the crime stories with the menace of the spy sagas. "It’s a period adventure in which I’ve tried to capture a playful spirit." The story features favourite characters Felix Leiter and Miss Moneypenny, and Faulks said he had avoided deep psychological portraits: "This is not Bond meets Charlotte Gray... my Bond has no inner life."

Sebastian Faulks was born on 20 April 1953 and was educated at Wellington College and Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He was the first literary editor of The Independent and became deputy editor of the Independent on Sunday before leaving in 1991 to concentrate on writing. He has been a columnist for The Guardian (1992-8) and the Evening Standard (1997-9). He continues to contribute articles and reviews to a number of newspapers and magazines. He wrote and presented the Channel 4 Television series ’Churchill’s Secret Army’, screened in 1999. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
