TIMELESS WISDOM: PASSAGES FOR MEDITATION FROM THE WORLD’S SAINTS AND SAGES

Timeless Wisdom, the companion volume to Passage Meditation, is a rich collection of spiritual texts from all the world’s great traditions, selected by Easwaran for study and for his method of meditation.
Here are flashes of insight from the Hindu Upanishads, prayers of comfort from the Christian saints, psalms from the Old Testament, songs of praise from the Sufis, and deep wisdom from the Buddhist and Taoist traditions. Some of these passages, such as the Prayer of St. Francis, the Buddha’s Twin Verses, and the Twenty-third Psalm, are familiar and well loved, others may be fresh discoveries – all are beautiful. Short texts, easy to read and memorize, are interspersed with longer ones, which the reader can study in depth.
This anthology includes extracts from Easwaran’s bestselling Classics of Indian Spirituality series – The Bhagavad Gita, The Dhammapada, and The Upanishads. Through his own clear, accessible translations, Easwaran brings the wisdom of these classics within our reach. An authority on world mysticism, Easwaran has also selected passages from other traditions that are intriguing and meaningful for us today.
Positive, practical, and inspiring, these passages express the universal ideals of love, steadfastness, and wisdom. They can be read as holy words and also as the promptings of our true Self, the core of goodness within us.

Chinese Summary/

Awards/获奖情况:“Powerful, positive, practical, universal in appeal and of great literary beauty, the pieces in the collection remind us that life has a purpose in which each person has a meaningful part; that all creation is one and full of divinity; that every moment is precious; and what gives life meaning is love and human relationships.” --– Fellowship in Prayer
“This is an expertly crafted, beautifully presented book containing words of inspiration from some of the greatest literature, religious and spiritual, from around the world . . . 12-Steppers and others who are seeking deeper readings than short quotations will find it useful and inspiring for meditations and stimulating deep reflections.” --– Recovery Times
“As an attractive sampler of sacred literature, God Makes the Rivers to Flow would be impressive enough. But these passages were chosen by writer Eknath Easwaran for their transformative power. The book offers instructions for meditating on the passages, which include selections from the Upanishads, the Torah, the Bhagavad Gita, the Bible, and Taoist and Islamic texts. The meanings and rhythms of the selections are calming. Their beauty inevitably emanates from their simplicity.” --– New Age Journal
