English Summary/英文概要： Two long-time friends, along with their wives, take a road trip that will take them to Catalonia through the South of France. The two protagonists, the narrator and Jacopo, are middle-age men dealing with nostalgia, lifetime balances and regrets. But while the former is a successful author who has lost his creative vein, the latter seems to have one more ace up his sleeve. So, the very first stop of their trip, an enchanting village on the Cote d’Azur, Jacopo pulls it out: he’s putting the final touches to a formidable novel. The author had suspected, and feared, that all along. What he could not even remotely imagine is that his friend is about to succeed precisely where he has always been failing: write a lovestory. The next day, as their wives catch the bus to a local flea market, Jacopo drags his friend on a climb up the Gorges de Loup from which only the author comes back alive. Whatever happened during those few, fatal hours? Not even the survivor is able to remember: the one certain thing is that, at some point, he had to stop due to an injury, so Jacopo decided to go on alone leaving his backpack behind. In the backpack, the manuscript of his novel: Gli amanti fiamminghi.

About the Author/作者介绍： Paolo Maurensig was born in Gorizia, living and working in Udine. He published La variante di Lüneburg (Adelphi 1993), then, with Mondadori, Canone inverso (1996), L’ombra e la meridiana (1998), Venere lesa (2001), L’uomo scarlatto (2001), Il guardiano dei sogni (2003), Vukovlad(2006).
帕羅‧莫倫西（Paolo Maurensig），1943年生於義大利北部的戈里齊亞，曾任記者、攝影師。目前是古董樂器修補師、自由作家。現居義大利北部的烏迪內。另著有《雙面小提琴》（Canone Inverso）。1993年莫倫西出版第一部作品《珍瓏棋局》（La Variante di Luneburg）(以上兩本皆為天培出版)，即獲得廣大的迴響及重視，奠下他文學作家的地位。
