Melania Rizzoli is a doctor. On September 11 2001, at age 42, she was diagnosed with a malignant blood tumour. She would eventually recover thanks to stem-cell autotransplantation. Her testimony is powerful but never pathetic. Spontaneously honest and outspoken, she tells about the illness, the therapies and doctors’ mistakes in a lucid, straightforward and open manner. She reminds us how important it is to heed our body’s signals.

Throughout the books hers is a dual perspective. Two different ways of observing and experiencing the situation continually take over and merge, in a mutually enriching experience: the viewpoint of the patient and that of an oncologist.

The second part of the book is dedicated to everyone dealing with such illnesses: patients, doctors and, most of all, families.

About the Author/作者介绍： MELANIA DE NICHILO RIZZOLI was born in Rome, where she lives and works. A Medicine and Surgery graduate specialised in Internal Medicine at Rome’s La Sapienza University, she was the head physician of a major Roman hospital for over twenty years. More than ninety of her articles and essays have been published on national and international reviews. Since 2004 she has been the vice president of AIL, the Association against Leukaemia, Lymphomata and Myelomata that deals with research and support for blood-tumour victims. Married to Angelo Rizzoli, she has two children: Arrigo (16) and Alberto (15). On April 15 2008 she became an Italian MP.
