English Summary/英文概要： This is the true story of a six-year-old girl named Elena and her battle against cancer. In her last days she showed a community how to love and how to live. Written through the eyes of her parents as a remembrance for her younger sister, her daily story tells one of humility and inspiration as she lives each day, one at a time. In her short time she painted a masterpiece that would hang in an art museum, she accomplished a truly spectacular series of wishes that she alone created, and she inspired a cause that remains today to help children everywhere in their fight against brain cancer.


The story of six year old Desserich, who died of inoperable brain cancer in 2007, garnered significant interest in December when ABC-TV’s "Good Morning America" profiled the family and how the girl spent her final months fulfilling various wishes, while also leaving hidden messages for her parents and sister to find around their family home. The book, a tribute to the girl, is also a fundraising tool for the charity www.TheCureStartsNow.org, a foundation created to support research on pediatric brain cancer. The deal was made by Lisa Sharkey of the Harper Collins Creative Development Team with Assistant Editor Amy Kaplan attached to edit. The project was represented by Sharlene Martin of Martin Literary Management, who will also be handling foreign and film sales. The book is tentatively scheduled for a late 2009 publication. It has been compared to The Last Lecture by Dr. Randy Pausch and Jeffrey Zaslow. Zaslow has agreed to write a jacket quote for the book.
