Gianluca Chancellor, fund manager extraordinaire, leaves the City in a blaze of speculation, having sold out to his two partners. Father of two little girls and coming to terms with an acrimonious divorce, he has come to understand that making money had become an end in itself rather than a means to an end. In his search for a new sense of purpose in his life he travels to his parents’ renovated palazzo on the Amalfi coast in Italy and is very soon bewitched by a local woman, Cosima. But why is she so mysterious and so unwilling to engage with people? Gianluca is half-Italian, and he finds a special joy in returning to his mother’s homeland, becoming immersed in the beautiful scenery and the customs of the Amalfi village. He also rediscovers in himself a long-hidden and very special gift, which enables Cosima to quell her inner turmoil and become open once more to the possibility of happiness and love.

About the Author/作者介绍： Santa Montefiore1970年出生於英國,母親是英籍阿根廷人,她在英國埃克塞特大學學習西班牙語和義大利語。她和她的丈夫，歷史學家Simon Sebag Montefiore和兩個孩子住在倫敦。
Santa Montefiore was born in England in 1970 to an Anglo-Argentine mother, and read Spanish and Italian at Exeter University. After a year teaching English on an Argentine estancia, she spent much of the nineties in Buenos Aires. She lives in London with her husband, the historian Simon Sebag Montefiore, and their children, Lily and Sasha.
