JUST DO IT
This is a book that condenses the author’s twenty-three years of experience in the implementing lean production systems in more than ten companies. That is the passion for half his life. It was in this journey that he discovered that the single most crucial element in making a success out of every endeavor is, “Just Do It”. This is a principle that most of us dreaded it, but to our own perils.
How do you measure one’s success in life?
First, it begins with whether you did something or not.
Second, did your actions produce something productive or does it bring benefits? Nevertheless, you cannot answer this question if you have not done it.
But why do we not do it?
For whatever reason we thought, we should be smart and not waste our time and effort working on something that we thought will not bring result. This leads to ‘kiasuism’ - a dreadful disease that inflict almost every Singaporeans. Kiasuism is a Singapore culture that the author would not want to be proud of but it is being pursued by every Singaporean as the form of ultimate smartness; but to his own peril.
It could be most Singaporeans could not see the long term vision of working hard and they may even jeered at fellow colleagues or friends who steadfastly work on an endeavor that is seemingly mission impossible and therefore, wasting his precious time.
Hey! What is the key ingredient of success? It takes a person with brave heart to kick start a seemingly impossible task. Mission impossible, you may say from the onset. But there were countless historical battles fought and won by the brave hearts who ventured out: fear not, ‘just do it’.
Of course, ‘just do it’ once is certainly not enough. You have to continuously ‘just do it’ on and on to achieve lasting successes in your entire life. Encore after encore. What does it takes to produce reverberating encores? The answer is, work hard.
At the end of working hard for years and decades, do we feel proud of what we have done? This is the question of self-actualization. Indeed, every one of us had achieved a most satisfying life by ‘Just Do It’.
On the contrary, you will regret if you have not “Just Do It” and had let time to slip past your palm for not doing something that does not fall into the category, ‘work smart’. You had failed yourself by not doing something.
Chinese Summary/
(YM)
