MICHAEL JACKSON-BLACK OR WHITE
This new biography tells the story of Michael Jackson’s tragic and fascinating life from the first day to his last. The book had just been completed when news came through, on June 25th 2009, of Michael’s untimely death. The printing of the book was halted at the last minute in order to add a new chapter about this sad end to a brilliant and yet almost inconceivably difficult life. “Black Or White” chronicles the life of Michael Jackson in two parallel and separate narrative strands. Positive events are described in one, the negative developments which invariably accompanied the positive, in the other. The book attempts to place Jackson’s life and career in a wider social, historical and political context. In an even-handed and non-sensationalist tone, the book is a serious and yet highly readable attempt to find the “real” Michael Jackson amongst the plethora of myths, rumours and lies that circulate about him.
Swiss-born Hanspeter Künzler arrived in London just as “Off the Wall” marked the arrival of Michael Jackson as a mature artist. Working in a secondary school in Wembley at that time, he was able at first hand to experience the galvanising and unifying effect Michael’s music had on the students of a modern, multi-racial and urban school. Since the mid-eighties, Künzler has written extensively about music in particular and the arts in general for a wide range of publications in Germany and Switzerland. He appears frequently on national Swiss radio. For many years he wrote, produced and presented a music show for the German wing of the BBC World Service. Today, he lives in London and Zurich with his wife, a children’s book author, and two children.
