SPITFIRE SUMMER :WHEN BRITAIN STOOD ALONE
	         Book ID/图书代码: 02670000B12789
English Summary/英文概要: Summer 1940: Nazi Germany was swiftly tightening its grip on Europe. Hitler’s forces appeared to be invincible, having swept through Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands and France. Invasion seemed inevitable as the Fuhrer’s eyes turned to Britain, isolated against the might of fascism. But he reckoned without the indomitable will and spirit of the British people and their leader, Winston Churchill. Spitfire Summer tells the story of that extraordinary time. Packed full of unique archive material and first-hand accounts, it tells the story of the men and women who fought and won the Battle of Britain in that fateful summer: the summer of the Spitfire.

About the Author/作者介绍: MALCOLM BROWN, formerly a very successful documentary director for television, has been a freelance historian at the Imperial War Museum since 1989. With a substantial list of books to his credit, primarily focusing on the First World War, he has taken a special pleasure in writing for the first time about the war that he himself remembers, finding it both rewarding and moving to revisit, as a historian, a period which he originally saw through the eyes of a child.
