THE KINDNESS OF YOUR NATURE

How are we supposed to recognize the difference between love that is allowed and love that is forbidden? What is our punishment when we fail to adhere to the rules—our own, and those of society?
Marion Flint is a fifty six year old woman who lives alone on the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island. One day, Marion befriends Ika, a little boy with webbed fingers, a fear of being touched, and a dysfunctional family. The strange boy and the lonely woman begin an unusual friendship consisting of weekly Thursday dinners, and Ika’s presence forces Marion to revisit her painful past: domestic violence with a deadly end, losing touch with her brother when the two are put up for adoption, coping with the deterioration of her own marriage. But the most painful moment of Marion’s life happens when she forces herself to abandon her one true love—because she realizes that the man she loves, and who loves her, is her long lost brother. The devastating consequences are Marion’s to live with for the rest of her life. But meeting little Ika opens a new door. A new love. Different. Allowed. And ultimately healing.

Ika……(Ruby)
