BLIND TO BETRAYAL: WHY WE FOOL OURSELVES WE AREN’T BEING FOOLED
Book ID/图书代码: 04160009B32411
English Summary/英文概要: In BETRAYAL, Freyd and Birrell, both professors at the University of Oregon, use real-life stories from people they have researched over 15 years to illustrate their discoveries – from personal to public betrayal (e.g. Hilary Clinton), from the workplace to political betrayal (e.g. Colin Powell). Not a self-help manual with easy fixes, BETRAYAL is a psychological exploration of betrayal for the curious smart reader, which also provides useful signposts for recognizing and dealing with betrayal.
In 1996, Harvard University Press published Freyd’s widely reviewed academic book, BETRAYAL TRAUMA – still in print after 16 years! Freyd, a Professor of Psychology at the University of Oregon, is an internationally known lecturer – from Australia to Scandinavia and Germany. Birrell is also a Professor of Psychology at Oregon.

(Vincent)

First off, full disclosure; I am a friend and colleague of these authors. This book embodies what led to our friendship; it’s an insight-laden, research-driven, yet experience-near discussion of a topic that grips most of us at one time or another in our lives. Being betrayed- by a parent, by a partner, by a trusted institution - is so common as to be ubiquitous, and yet perplexing. Blind to betrayal helps to answer the perennial question, "Why didn’t she fight back?" Why does he stay?" Doesn’t s/he see what’s going on?" by giving readers not only real-life examples to which anyone can relate, but also the research basis on which Jennifer Freyd’s Betrayal Trauma Theory has been built. And in case you’re worried that two professors won’t write something that you can read, not to fear; Freyd and Birrell have created something that’s digestible, while not talking down to anyone. Get this book, read this book; it will open your eyes.
