HEAVEN, HELL AND CHANEL
Book ID/图书代码: 00200009B33139
English Summary/英文概要: HEAVEN, HELL AND CHANEL – part The Devil Wears Prada, part Harold
Robbins – is a big, sexy and deliciously commercial novel. Four young
characters from very different worlds, all obsessed with the ‘haute couture’
– and with Chanel in particular – meet in Paris in the late 1960s. Their
destinies intertwine and Chanel herself – who at the time this is set is a lonely
woman in her eighties living in the Ritz – plays a key role. “Mademoiselle”
Chanel is no more a saint on these pages than she was in reality, yet she
comes to life in a rich and (at times) surprisingly sympathetic manner.
Harold Carlton used to sketch the Paris collections for Elle, the Sunday Times
and others, often with Givenchy or Chanel standing behind him to make
sure he got the drawing right! He worked for three years as assistant designer
for two Paris maisons de couture, Nina Ricci and Courreges, and subsequently
worked in New York illustrating fashion pieces for the New York Times and
Mademoiselle. His previous novel set in the world of New York fashion –
LABELS – sold over a million copies in the English language.
