English Summary/英文概要： There’s a lot of death in Lincoln Raintree Crenshaw’s life. His dad, for whom he’s named, dropped dead of a heart attack when Linc was seven, his mom, Lottie, is a history professor who studies burial customs, and Linc and his mom live in a house that neighbors Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City.

To top that off, Linc’s just starting seventh grade at the local public junior high. He’d been attending a kind of home-school run by one of his mom’s retired colleagues. He’s nervous about fitting in and very tired of his mom’s obsession with her work.

Soon after school starts, his American Studies teacher announces a field trip to Oakland Cemetery, where each student is to adopt a grave and write a paper about that person or family buried there. Linc chooses the Black Angel in a way to spite his mom, as a mythology has grown up around this monument. It’s believed to be cursed-something Lottie pooh-poohs, but Linc’s not so sure.

Delaney, who Linc hopes will become his friend, adopts Richard Raintree’s grave, and her research leads to some highly unexpected discoveries about both Linc and his father.

About the Author/作者介绍： When DELIA RAY was little, she and her sister and their cousin invented the Brave Girl Club as a way to make the long, hot summers in Tidewater, Virginia, a little more exciting. They dared each other to perform all sorts of daunting challenges—swims across an algae-covered, snake-infested pond, for example, or solo trips to the second story of an old, abandoned farmhouse hidden deep in the woods. Delia says she still uses her Brave Girl training today whenever she’s conducting research for her books, which have taken her on adventures from the Yukon Territory in Canada to cemeteries spread across the state of Iowa.
