It is impossible to read this book without admiring the illustrations by Nigel Baines which offer as much attraction and entertainment as the text itself.

Spud is a character who decides to "go green" and during the course of a year learns how to act in an environmentally friendly way. Specific days of the year are written in diary form and offer tips for recycling, using our natural resources in an efficient way and treating our environment in a respectful way. It manages to educate without sounding patronising, to offer practical advice for making useful items and to share scientific knowledge in an accessible manner. No wonder it was voted "Winner of the Blue Peter Book Award; best book with facts".

About the Author/作者介绍： Giles Thaxton lives on a big old wooden boat in Wales. He is really quite green, but any further resemblance to Spud is purely coincidental. After doing a degree in Engineering, Design and Appropriate Technology in Mid-Wales, Giles went on to work as a carpenter in the same area. He plays in a band called Big Bunda and is really quite into his black and white photography. This is his first book.
Nigel is an experienced book designer who has worked for various trade publishing houses. Simon and Schuster loved his work so much they chose him to illustrate the highly successful YUCK series. Nigel is a keen walker and would like to spend half the year living on top of the Andes. His other great loves are Grantham Town Football Club and any kind of travel.
Giles Thaxton住在威爾斯的木造船裡，真實的生活跟書中Spud一樣以綠色環保的生活標榜。取得工程學位後，擔任過木工及攝影師的工作。這是他們第一本童書創作。
