English Summary/英文概要： The two positions propounded in all these books are either theism or atheism, never agnosticism. The problem with these books is that they are all based on a feeble premise – the authors purport to know, or just about know, that there is or is not a Supreme Being, whereas I firmly believe that the only intelligent, rational position to take is that the existence or non-existence of God is obviously unknowable; that is, beyond the reach of human comprehension. And efforts to prove the contrary are doomed to fail since they are attempts to defend the indefensible. Proving what I just said, by incontrovertible logic, is a burden of proof I am positive I can meet in my book. I am also confident that in this book I can live up to what the Los Angeles Times said about me that I am “an American master of common sense.”
The other problem with these books is that they all regurgitate tired, moldy arguments that have been made many times before. Although well-written and scholarly, show me, for instance, a fresh, arresting argument for atheism in Richard Dawkins’ huge bestseller, The God Delusion. I can show you several very gaping holes in his arguments, but show me just one new and important insight of his.
