English Summary/英文概要： Spurred on by an end of the school-year unit in Ms Biddle’s class on genealogy, Ruthie and Jack find out that some secrets in the rooms are connected directly to the present day. While trying to find out if the slave tag they had found in the beaded handbag belonged to Eliza, from room A29, they wander into some of the other American rooms. In Room A12 – a living room from Cape Cod of circa 1750 - they discover a ship in a bottle. The last name on the bottom is the same as one that Jack has newly discovered as one of his ancestor names. This leads them to explore the living world outside the room, where they meet someone from Jack’s family tree, coming face to face with Jack’s direct ancestor – a real live pirate! Though only16, Jack Norfleet shows them what life as a pirate off the coast of Massachusetts was like and what kind of character became a pirate. Jack, who never knew his own father, realizes what a gift he’s been given, to go back in time to meet his great, great, great, great grandfather!

Concurrently, a classmate - the richest girl in the school who appears to have it all - has hit a dead-end in the search for one of her own ancestors, someone she knows to have been a slave girl in the south. As Ruthie gets to know this classmate – Kendra Connor – she learns about a scandal that had taken place in the Connor family two generations ago which had caused them to loose much wealth and respect. It begins to dawn on Ruthie that the ancestor that Kendra is researching fits the description of Eliza, and that the family scandal may be put to rest by an important discovery in the rooms. The clues that Ruthie and Jack find lead them to learn something more about Mrs. Thorne and how Eliza’s ledger of elixirs ended up in her possession and then hidden away in the cabinet of room A29.
