On a December afternoon while cutting pine boughs up in the woods, I experiences a seemingly impossible and incredible sight: An old-fashioned sleigh pulled by a crimson-coated reindeer and steered by an ordinary looking young man goes racing by, careening onto a steep, wide road of white ice that a moment before hadn’t been there. As the sleigh disappears, the road dissolves from view as though it never existed. And I discover at his feet a large, leather-bound, forest green book that had fallen off the sleigh. He takes the book home and starts to read The Green Book or "the true and authorized chronicle of Klaus..."

I read all night, falling asleep just before dawn. When I awake, I discover the book is gone, but a note has been left in its place. "We needed this back," it said, "but don’t worry. You’ll remember every word. Tell the world before it’s too late, when and if you feel brave enough."

I think I feel brave enough. Do you? Because I do remember every word of The Green Book and I can quote it for you word for word. Are you ready? You’re about to hear the true history of Santa Claus..."

About the Author/作者介绍： TIM SLOVER is a writer and professor of theater at the University of Utah. His plays have been produced off-Broadway and in theaters throughout the United States and in London, where he spends part of each year. His wife, usefully, is a marriage and family therapist, and their two sons were the original audience for this Christmas story. For the purposes of yuletide decorating, each Christmas Tim continues to cut a few pine boughs at an undisclosed location.
