English Summary/英文概要： The novel is set on the Jersey shore over the course of a recent summer in the life of the narrator, Cincey. It documents his life working in a boatyard and his love for a local girl, Vera.
SOUND does what all my favourite novels do: it take a seemingly small story, and crafts it with such energy and heart and personality that it becomes something much bigger; a story that will resonate internationally.
The editors - Lee Brackstone and Mitzi Angel - have both mentioned Generation X and Norwegian Wood as comparable titles - it is magical, and conjures an emotional landscape through musical reference, creative format and an essentially classic story: boy falls in love, girl rejects boy.
What makes SOUND so distinctive and exciting is its composition. It is written in landscape form (and so needs to be printed and read in landscape!) with the descriptive prose separated from the dialogue and the internal thoughts of Cincey, which read separately like a music score. It allows for an incredible layering effect - several conversations can occur at one, with music and radio commentary providing a constant soundtrack behind the narration and dialogue. It might sound high-concept, but it’s not at all hard to read and the writing itself is still the most impressive thing! There’s no feeling of pretension; it’s rather a novel you truly ’experience’ as though in 3D, and your engagement with it as a reader is given an incredible, simple clarity.

About the Author/作者介绍： 作者現職 (read and weep!)：耶魯法學院學生。2005年以最高榮譽（summa cum laude）畢業於哈佛大學。
曾獲得馬歇爾獎學金，後至劍橋取得哲學碩士學位，師承當代最著名的政治理論家史金納(Quentin Skinner)。
後來倫敦大學又頒給他榮譽學位〈這個是都市發展計畫學位〉，然後跑去幫歐巴馬工作，負責南卡的義工籌組與固票工作。
他上個暑假在美國布魯克林區的東區檢查長辦公室工作，參與ㄧ樁毒品掃蕩大案。
他自己本身是個超級hip hop迷，在學校的時候爲不同線上音樂刊物和實體音樂出版社撰寫文章，包含Stylus, Undercoer, PopMatter和Okayplaer。
同時間他也是耶魯法學與政策評論的資深編輯，並在學校拿了很多獎，包括
