English Summary/英文概要： TODAY is a fictionalised account of the events of Conrad’s death, which coincided with the eighteenth birthday of his younger son John. The dramatis personae are all based on the real people who were present at the time. The novel opens as Conrad’s faithful secretary, Lilian Fellowes sets off on a train from London to join the family and close friends for what should have been a joyful celebration. When it is discovered that Conrad has in fact died each has to come to terms with their loss from his wife Jessie, his elder son Borys, his close friend Curle and John for whom the event marks the end of childhood. Lillian too responds in her own way - immediately redundant yet as wretched and touched by it as they are. Her one recorded wish was to have the typewriter she had so long worked on with Conrad, the sole means of her livelihood.
