About the Author/作者介绍： Harriet Elinor Smith is an editor at the Mark Twain Project, which is housed within the Mark Twain Papers, the world’s largest archive of primary materials by this major American writer. Under the direction of General Editor Robert H. Hirst, the Project’s editors are producing the first comprehensive editions of all of Mark Twain’s writings.
Mark Twain gave specific instructions that his autobiography not be published until 100 years after his death (which is now). Some material was published shortly after his death, but not in a complete form, and not how Mark Twain intended it. The University of California Press edition is the only complete and accurate edition as prepared by Mark Twain and authorized by the Mark Twain Library which is based at the University of California, Berkeley.
As you might imagine, there has been a lot of interest in this work. It was featured on the front page of the Saturday issue of the New York Times, and was featured on PBS’s News Hour with Jim Lehrer. TIME magazine is also planning a feature article on Twain & the autobiography later this summer.
