PRIMA DI LASCIARSI (BEFORE WE SAY GOOD BYE)
Book ID/图书代码: 10890010B38103
English Summary/英文概要: Loosely based on a true story, Prima di lasciarsi narrates the final hours in the lives of a teenage bomber and her victims – a 17 year-old girl from Jerusalem and the security guard whose intervention saved the lives of the rest of the people at the busy market on that Passover Eve.
Dima is at the top of her class. She dreams of going to college and studying journalism. Instead, she decides to become a news story herself. Bad news. Myriam dreams of America and misses Michael, of whom only one arm was left. As she photographs trees, she fantasises about sinking her own roots in her country. Dima is Palestinian and Myriam is Israeli and at sunset on a day in March they meet to die together. The story begins at seven o’clock in the morning on the day of the attack and ends with the horrifying explosion. Despite the very short time span – a mere seven hours – seen from the points of view of the different characters, the book tries to portray the complex reality between Israel and Palestine.
After receiving rave reviews all over Italy, the book became a textbook in Italian high schools as well as in several universities around the world. The book was also translated into Hebrew and Arabic and published in the Palestinian territories and other Middle Eastern countries. The book has been employed by Israeli colleges and human rights organizations working in Israel and Palestine as an educational tool. It also won the prize for Italian novels at the Festival du Premier Roman in Chambéry.

Reviews:
’...juxtaposes cultural tradition and extremism with explosive consequences…with an electrifying sense of pace and short, spare narrative that progresses the story at a real lick, this is a book that is guaranteed to make an impression as well as holding real appeal for less confident readers’---The Bookseller
“Before We Say Goodbye can do infinitely more for the peace between the two people than hundreds of political goodwill talks I have heard.”---Ali Rashid, former head of the Palestinian delegation in Italy
“Before We Say Goodbye gives us a rare look and a wonderful opportunity to get to know reality from the bird’s-eye view, with all its complexity and many faces. It does not embellish it. It does not blame or judge, nor does it get tangled in political accusations of who is better off or who is hurting more. It mourns, it despairs and it hurts, but it is brutally honest. And that is where its importance lies. That is where its magic lies.”---Vered Cohen-Barzilay, Director of Communications and Publications, Amnesty International Israel
