Susan, a journalist, has been sent there to write human-interest stories. Initially she finds herself ill-equipped, frightened and bewildered but when she meets Son, an inscrutable but resourceful and charming Vietnamese photographer, they form a strong if unlikely bond. And, although she begins a passionate affair with a fellow American war correspondent, it is the relationship with Son that sustains and intrigues her. When they are captured by the Vietcong and held for several days enduring terrifyingly harsh conditions it becomes clear just how profound and important their relationship has become to both of them.

About the Author/作者介绍： 玛缇•蕾慕巴奇（Marti Leimbach）生于华盛顿特区，现居于伦敦，在牛津大学教授写作课程。她著有多部小说，其中包括国际畅销的《伴你一生》（DYING YOUNG）和《丹尼尔缄默不语》（DANIEL ISN’T TALKING ），前者被翻拍成电影，由茱莉亚•罗伯茨主演；后者也已将电影版权卖予福克斯2000。

Marti Leimbach is the author of several novels, including the international bestseller, DYING YOUNG, which was made into a major film starring Julia Roberts, and DANIEL ISN’T TALKING (2006), which was published in twelve countries with film rights to Fox 2000. Born in Washington, D.C., she now lives in England and teaches at Oxford University’s Creative Writing Programme.
