English Summary/英文概要： Twelve-year-old orphan Kit Buckles travels to London to seek his fortune. He joins a gang of street thieves and is sent by their Fagin-like leader to rob patrons of the theatre where William Shakespeare’s Lord Chamberlain’s Men are performing. Caught in the act, Kit is given a choice: jail, or working off his debt as a stage boy for the Burbage brothers, who own the playhouse. Kit grows fond of the playhouse—the dramas on and off the stage, the company rivalries and the excitement of performing for the Queen. He tries—and fails miserably—to become a player, and signs on as an apprentice stage boy instead. When the owner of the land on which the Theatre playhouse is built evicts the company, hoping to tear down the playhouse for the timber, Kit is caught up in an exciting plot. In a Herculean effort, the Burbages, their architect, and workmen manage to secretly dismantle the theatre and transport it across the river where they rebuild it as the Globe playhouse.
