Ellis Avery’s previous novel, THE TEAHOUSE FIRE (Riverhead 2007), was winner of the Lambda Literary Award, a Kiriyama Prize Notable Book, and a finalist for the Ohioana Book Award. Her book of poetry THE SMOKE WEEK was published by Gival Press in 2003. Avery is a graduate of the MFA program at Goddard College. She won the Ohio Young Writers Award for her poetry, and her first novel was the runnerup for the Pirate’s Alley/William Faulkner writing competition. Her work has appeared onstage at Expanded Arts Theater and in print in The Village Voice. She has taught English Literature at Columbia University and the University of California, Berkeley.
